Publer vs Buffer: How the Paid Tiers Line Up
Publer and Buffer price the same way, per connected social account, and both headline $5 per month. The differences sit in the annual rate, the volume rule, where analytics and team features land, and what each free plan allows. Here is the tier-by-tier comparison from both pricing pages as checked on October 10, 2026.

Publer and Buffer are the closest pair in this market: both bill per connected social account, both put the entry tier at $5 per month per account, and both offer a three-account free plan with ten scheduled posts per account. The split shows up elsewhere.
Publer discounts the annual rate to $4 and gives every tenth account free; Buffer keeps $5 and lowers the rate only above ten channels. Buffer includes advanced analytics at the entry tier, Publer holds analytics for its $10 Business tier.
This guide compares both pricing pages tier by tier as checked on October 10, 2026, in dollars and excluding tax.
Both sell the same unit, so start there
Buffer's FAQ defines it precisely: "A channel is one social account you connect to Buffer." It adds the worked example: five brands with an Instagram and a Facebook page each is 10 channels.
Publer calls the unit a social account and gives the same kind of example: "2 Facebook pages and 2 Instagram accounts count as 4 social accounts." Both pages therefore quote a per-unit price that you multiply yourself.
That shared model makes them directly comparable, which is unusual here. Later bundles networks into social sets and Hootsuite bills seats, as we set out in what counts as a channel in a social scheduler.
The headline prices match; the annual rates do not
- Buffer Free: $0, up to 3 channels, 10 scheduled posts per channel with refill, 100 ideas, 1 user account, community inbox, 1 API key and 3,000 requests a month.
- Buffer Essentials: $5 per month for one channel, or $60 billed yearly, labelled "save 2 months" on the card. One user account.
- Buffer Team: $10 per month per channel, or $120 billed yearly, adding unlimited team members, access levels and content approval workflows.
- Publer Free: $0, 1 user, 1 workspace, 3 social accounts except X, 10 scheduled posts per account, 25 saved drafts and 24-hour post history.
- Publer Professional: $5.00 per month per account, or $4.00 per month billed yearly, with unlimited scheduling, unlimited workspaces and X support.
- Publer Business: $10.00 per month, or $8.00 billed yearly, adding analytics, best times to post, competitor analysis and API access.
Buffer's FAQ states that annual billing carries a 20 percent discount and that you can switch frequency at any time with prorations applied. Publer's FAQ states the same 20 percent for yearly, alongside a "2 months free" badge.
The published cards still differ. Publer prints both rates, $5.00 monthly and $4.00 yearly. Buffer prints $5 per month next to $60 billed yearly, which is twelve times $5, so the card does not expose a separate month-to-month figure.
The two free plans are the closest match in the category, and more generous than Later's trial-only approach. We put all three entry tiers side by side in Buffer versus Later versus Hootsuite.

Volume discounts work differently, and Publer's is clearer
Publer's rule is a free unit: "For every 9 social accounts, the 10th one is free." Its FAQ confirms the result, that 20 accounts means paying for 18. The same rule applies to additional team members.
Buffer's rule is a lower rate: "channels 1-10 are priced at the standard rate, and any channels above 10 cost less per channel." The page does not publish the reduced rate, so an eleven-channel total cannot be calculated from it.
That makes the arithmetic one-sided below ten units. Ten accounts on Publer Professional billed yearly is nine paid units at $4, so $36 per month, by our calculation. Ten channels on Buffer Essentials is $50 per month.
Above ten channels Buffer may close the gap, but nobody can say by how much from the public page. Ask support for the per-channel rate at your account count before committing to an annual term.
Analytics and team work sit at different tiers
Buffer puts advanced analytics on Essentials at $5, along with hashtag manager, first comment scheduling and 3 API keys with 7,500 requests a month. Team at $10 adds unlimited members, access levels and approval workflows.
Publer puts analytics insights and reports, best times to post, competitor analysis, hashtag analytics and "Access to Publer API & MCP" on Business at $10, or $8 billed yearly. Professional at $5 is a publishing tier.
Collaboration is priced apart on Publer. Additional members are a separate quantity on the pricing slider, described as giving "collaboration and approval workflows," and the page states the plan owner does not count toward that limit.
One honest gap: the copy we read did not print a per-member price, only the slider and the every-tenth-free rule. A three-person Publer total therefore cannot be computed from the page alone, while Buffer Team's unlimited members can.

Run the numbers for three realistic setups
Solo creator, 3 accounts, 1 person. Buffer Essentials: $15 per month, $180 yearly. Publer Professional billed yearly: $12 per month, $144 a year. Publer is $36 a year cheaper, and both free plans already cover three accounts if ten queued posts suffice.
Small agency, 10 client accounts, 1 person. Buffer Essentials: $50 per month, $600 a year. Publer Professional billed yearly: $36 per month, $432 a year, thanks to the tenth account being free. All four figures are our arithmetic from the October 2026 pages.
Content team, 6 accounts, 3 editors with approvals. Buffer Team: $60 per month for unlimited members. Publer Business billed yearly: $48 per month for the accounts, plus two additional members at an unpublished rate, so the comparison stops there.
Smaller differences that decide real choices
- X support: Publer excludes X from its free plan entirely, citing "the Twitter / X Enterprise API cost." Buffer lists X among connectable accounts without a tier note.
- Post history: Publer Free keeps published posts for 24 hours and Professional promises "eternal posts history."
- Daily caps: Publer publishes a per-network daily post table by plan; Buffer publishes no equivalent, as discussed in what Instagram and TikTok API limits mean.
- Replies: Buffer lists a community inbox on every plan including Free; Publer's pricing page lists no inbox product, which we cover in what a unified social inbox costs.
- Trials: Buffer offers a 14-day free trial on both paid plans. Publer offers 7 days on Professional and 14 on Business, plus a 14-day money-back guarantee.
- Nonprofits: both pages offer a 50 percent discount, with Publer asking for documents such as a 501(c)(3) copy before you subscribe.
- Design: both integrate Canva, so the design bill is separate either way, as in Canva Free versus Pro.
Note also that neither tool is an analytics suite at agency scale. For brand-level reporting and listening the comparison moves to a different price class, which we work through in Metricool versus Sprout Social pricing.
Both publish an API as well, so a scheduler can sit inside a wider workflow. Costing that path means counting runs, not accounts, as in Zapier tasks versus Make credits versus n8n executions.
Frequently asked questions
Is Publer cheaper than Buffer?
Yearly, yes, at small scale. Publer Professional is $4.00 per account per month billed yearly against Buffer Essentials at $60 per channel per year, and Publer gives every tenth account free. Ten accounts works out at $432 against $600 a year.
Do both have a free plan?
Yes, and they are close. Each allows 3 connected accounts and 10 scheduled posts per account. Publer's free plan cannot connect X and keeps only 24 hours of post history; Buffer's includes 100 ideas and a community inbox.
Which one is better for a team?
Buffer, on published prices. Team at $10 per channel per month includes unlimited team members, access levels and approval workflows. Publer sells additional members as a separate quantity and does not print a per-member rate on the pricing page.
Does Buffer get cheaper if I add many channels?
Yes, but the figure is not published. The page states channels 1 to 10 are at the standard rate and channels above 10 cost less per channel, as of October 10, 2026, without naming the reduced rate.
Which gives analytics at the cheapest tier?
Buffer. Advanced analytics appears on Essentials at $5 per channel per month, while Publer holds analytics, best times to post and competitor analysis for Business at $10, or $8 billed yearly.
Can either tool post to X on a free plan?
Publer cannot: its pricing page states X accounts are supported on paid subscriptions only, because of Enterprise API cost. Buffer lists X among its connectable accounts with no free-tier exclusion noted on the page.
Bottom line
Count accounts first. Up to ten, Publer billed yearly is the cheaper of two near-identical products, helped by the every-tenth-free rule. Buffer wins when several people need access, because Team includes unlimited members at $10 per channel.
Both free plans are usable for three accounts and light volume. Prices reflect the vendors' pricing pages on October 10, 2026, exclude tax, and all multi-account totals above are our arithmetic from published per-unit rates.
